Fascial plane blocks five years on: are we any closer to understanding them?

Abstract

Fascial plane blocks have become one of the most rapidly adopted innovations in regional anaesthesia in the last decade. Yet despite widespread clinical use and thousands of publications, fundamental questions regarding mechanisms, anatomy, timing, dosing, safety, and patient selection remain unresolved. The challenge for the next decade is not the invention of new blocks, but understanding which blocks work, for whom, and why.
