Three-dimensional magnetic resonance techniques for evaluating the cervical spine.

Abstract

The general technique of three-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging is briefly described, as is a variety of specific three-dimensional sequences useful in the evaluation of spinal disease, particularly related to degenerative disc disease. Advantages of three-dimensional imaging include an increase in signal-to-noise ratio, thin contiguous slices, more accurate slice thickness, and a reduction in susceptibility artifacts. Computer post-processing allows reformatting of the data along any desired imaging plane, with minimal degradation in image quality.
