Abstract
The stresses of litigation for defendants are obvious. Less attention generally is given to the problems experienced by plaintiffs. Some examples are presented of plaintiffs in personal injury cases who experienced adverse reactions to the process of litigation. These experiences are not uncommon, and often the patient's condition is worse even after a case is settled. Explanations for this phenomenon and possible means of attenuating it are presented.
